The Bengaluru Launch Playbook
How we launch a restaurant, brewery, bar or café in Bengaluru: the timing, the week-by-week calendar, the creators, the deliverables and what to measure. From the team that launched The Bier Library, Yaakay and Central Bar District.
01
Why the opening matters
A restaurant, brewery, bar or café gets one opening. It is the one moment you cannot repeat — the weeks when the city decides whether you are a place people talk about or a place people walk past.
The aim is not a busy launch night on its own. It is a debut that lands as a city-wide event rather than a soft open, and a room that is still full after the paid wave has ended. The queue outside does the marketing that no post can buy.
That is why we run every launch on the same four phases: pre-launch FOMO, the influencer wave, launch night, and sustain. The rest of this guide lays them out against a calendar.
02
Timing: four to six weeks
Four to six weeks before the doors open is the sweet spot. That is enough time to build pre-launch FOMO, lock creators into a posting sequence and brief them properly on the venue.
You can compress it. We have turned launches around in under two weeks. But the buzz curve is shorter, and you pay for the compression in creator availability: at short notice, fewer of the right creators are free.
Our advice: talk to your launch team before you fix the date, not after. The launch starts four to six weeks before the doors open.
Most of our engagements are either a single launch campaign or a three-month retainer that carries the opening and the two months after it.
03
Week by week
From six weeks out to week two after opening. Indicative: a real plan is written around your venue, your neighbourhood and your date.
-
6 weeks out
Plan- Fix the opening date — and talk to your launch team before you do.
- Write the positioning a creator can say in one line.
- Name the neighbourhood and the audience the launch has to reach.
- Put creators and PR into one plan, with one owner.
-
5 weeks out
Pre-launch FOMO- Shortlist creators by neighbourhood and audience, not follower count.
- Check engagement quality and past brand work before anyone is confirmed.
- Plan media placements and launch listings to run alongside the creator wave.
-
4 weeks out
Pre-launch FOMO- Teasers go out: the space, the menu, the name.
- Start the whisper campaign, so the city hears about you before day one.
-
3 weeks out
Creator wave: set up- Confirm creators and lock them into a posting sequence.
- Write the creator briefs for this venue, not from a template.
- Agree deliverables and usage rights in writing.
-
2 weeks out
Pre-launch FOMO- Run the hyperlocal target-audience blitz in the neighbourhood you named.
- Brief creators properly on the venue: what it is, what to lead with, what to capture.
-
1 week out
Influencer wave- The wave begins: content lands in sequence, from micro voices to city-wide names.
- Launch listings go live alongside it.
- Write the launch-night run sheet: who arrives when, and who captures what.
-
Opening week
Launch night- The room full, the content rolling, the queue outside doing the marketing.
- Launch-night coverage, reposted under the usage rights you agreed.
- Start counting: footfall and wait times, every service.
-
Week one after opening
Influencer wave- Keep the sequence going so the feed stays full rather than spiking once.
- Repost the best creator content on your own channels.
-
Week two after opening
Sustain- Week two is where most launches die. Keep the creators, the PR and the content running.
- Watch the organic tail: the posts nobody was paid for.
- Decide what carries the next two months, until the habit sticks.
04
Choosing creators
Neighbourhood and audience beat follower count. A Koramangala opening needs the faces that Koramangala actually follows. A big number from across the city is worth less than a smaller one whose followers could be at your door tonight.
Mix reach with credibility. City-wide names bring reach. Hyperlocal micro creators bring credibility, because their audience trusts them on exactly your kind of place. A launch needs both.
Check before you confirm. Look at engagement quality, not just engagement numbers, and at the brand work a creator has done before. Confirm no one until both check out.
Size the wave to the venue. Mysore Dining Hall launched on 75 hyperlocal Kannada food creators; The Bier Library, at 1.5 acres, on 1,500+. Both were right for the room.
05
What a campaign should deliver
From every creator
- Reels and stories from every confirmed creator.
- Launch-night coverage.
- Usage rights, so you can repost.
PR alongside
Creator content builds desire; PR builds credibility. Media placements, launch listings and thought leadership should run alongside the influencer wave, under one plan — not after it.
Depending on scope
PR placements, UGC contests where they fit the brand, and a content bank you keep. Whatever the scope, get the exact deliverables written into the proposal before anything is signed.
06
What to measure
Per creator
Reach, views, engagement and saves for every creator, plus the aggregate. Saves are worth watching: they are people planning a visit.
At the venue
Footfall in opening week and wait times at each service. These are the numbers a venue actually cares about, and the ones a launch should be judged on.
After the wave
The tail of organic content that follows the paid wave. When guests post without being asked, the launch has started to sustain itself.
Agree what will be reported before the launch starts, so everyone judges it on the same numbers.
07
The pre-launch checklist
Fifteen things to have in place before the doors open.
- Opening date fixed, with four to six weeks of runway before it.
- Positioning a creator can say in one line.
- The target neighbourhood and audience, written down.
- Creator shortlist matched by neighbourhood and audience, not follower count.
- A mix of city-wide names for reach and hyperlocal micro creators for credibility.
- Engagement quality and past brand work checked for every creator before confirming.
- A posting sequence that keeps the feed full rather than spiking once.
- Creator briefs written for your venue, not a template.
- Deliverables and usage rights agreed in writing, before anything is signed.
- Teasers and the whisper campaign scheduled.
- PR placements and launch listings planned alongside the creator wave.
- A launch-night run sheet: who arrives when, and who captures what.
- A way to count opening-week footfall and wait times.
- Reporting agreed: reach, views, engagement and saves per creator, plus the aggregate.
- A plan for week two: creators, PR and content still running.
